Le site des Amis de Laplace - amisdelaplace.com - a essentiellement pour objet, à ce stade, de lister des personnes ayant quelqu'appréciation pour les travaux de Pierre Simon Laplace (1749 – 1827), mathématicien, astronome, physicien ainsi que philosophe et homme d'état. La vie et les apports du grand savant français sont bien résumés dans les articles Wikipédia qui lui sont consacrés dans de multiples langues. Ajoutons, à titre anecdotique, que lorsque Neil Armstrong visita sa ville natale en septembre 1969 - donc deux mois après son exploit - le Wapakoneta Daily News écrivit  ".....Il voulait que vous sachiez que Laplace fut un mathématicien du temps de George Washington qui décriivit la stabilité du système solaire; [et grâce à qui], si vous voulez aller sur la lune, vous pouvez avec un crayon et un papier déterminer exactement où la lune sera......."

Par ailleurs, chacun des Amis de Laplace mentionnés ci-dessous se dit favorable à l'édification d'un Musée Laplace dans le joli village de Beaumont-en-Auge (dans l'arrière-pays de Deauville) en Normandie où le savant est né. Le but d'un tel musée sera surtout de mettre en avant ses contributions à la science au sens large, ainsi que leur présence explicite de nos jours dans de nombreux domaines de connaissance extrêmement variés.

The website of the Friends of Laplace - amisdelaplace.com - aims essentially, at this stage, at listing persons having some appreciation for the contributions of Pierre Simon Laplace (1749 – 1827), mathematician, astronomer, physicist as well as philosopher and statesman. The life and the works of the great French scientist are well summarized in the Wikipedia articles dedicated to him in multiple languages. Let us add in anecdotal terms that when Neil Armstrong visited his hometown in September 1969, hence two months after his achievement, the Wapakoneta Daily News wrote:  ".......Laplace, he would want you to know, was a French mathematician from George Washington's time who described the stability of the solar system; how, if you want to fly to the moon, you can, with a pencil and paper, figure out exactly where the moon will be......."

Moreover, each Friend of Laplace mentioned below declares himself favourable to the establishment of a Laplace Museum in Beaumont-en-Auge, the beautiful village of Normandy (behind Deauville) where he was born. The essence of such a museum will be to stress the scientist's contributions and their explicit presence nowadays in a gamut of extremely diverse domains of knowledge.
